“Due to the unforeseen weather conditions, we regret to announce the adidas King of the Road is officially cancelled. We apologize for the this inconvenience but the safety and health of runners are our utmost priority.”
Once again, another race that we had prepared specifically for was cancelled. Was quite disappointed as I was hoping to use this 16.8 km race to gauge and determine my race pace for the upcoming AHM.
In any case, we were glad to bump into Gen and Kelvin while waiting for the rain to stop. Gen wanted to run still since he has came all the way down. Sounds like a plan! So upon hearing from the volunteers that the race was officially cancelled, we went to the car park to put our stuff in Gen’s car and jogged to the start line. The plan was to run according or as close as possible to the actual race route.
There were still some working crew around the area and some cheered for us when they saw us running in the rain. The rain was not as heavy as I had thought so it was actually quite fun running and chatting in the ran. Ran past the starting line and we continued running towards Marina Barrage. Along the way, we spotted a few (crazy) runners like us too. Arrived at one of the hydration stations after about 5km at Garden by the Bay East and were pleasantly surprised that the volunteers there were cheerfully holding up cups of water for us!
Up Tanjong Rhu bridge and we crossed the road to get back onto the race route and it wasn’t long before we found ourselves running along Nicoll Highway. Happened to see Thow Wee out running too and we waved and greeted him. We decided to cut short the distance a bit by turning right into F1 pit, out again towards Esplanade and back to where we have started.
Distance covered was probably around 13.5 ~ 14km, with an average pace of 5″02″/km. Not too bad for a replacement run on a wet and cold Sunday morning. Refreshing indeed.
